Meet Sourabhee Debbarma, a professional singer from Tripura who became the first lady to win the prestigious Indian Idol 4 contest. Sourabhee is from Agartala and she made history by winning Indian Idol season 4 and a contract worth Rs. 1 crore with Sony Music. See a video and a biography of Sourabhee Debbarma here.

Sourabhee beat other finalists Torsha Sarkar and Kapil Thapa to win the crown. This is what she has to say about herself:

“I learnt to sing from a cousin who used to learn classical singing. I am passionate about dancing. I am closest to my sister, who is three years younger to me.”

Sourabhee was always my favourite and I’m very happy she came on the front of such a popular show. We can expect to see her debut album in some weeks.

As a biography, Sourabhee Debbarma was born in 1985 so her age is 23. She started out in singing very early and was always an exceptional singer.

Sourabhee has her eye on the prize and is working hard to achieve it.

“I am concentrating on the rehearsals,” she says. “I want to give my best and dance well because I love dancing.”

Sourabhee made quite a number of friends like Bhavya, Akanksha, Purnima and Raina on the singing show. She was quite entertaining the whole season and was scared of Anu Malik the whole time as he was quite critical of her singing style. Her inspiration is famous Bollywood singer Sunidhi Chauhan.

“I was surprised when I was selected because all the trained singers were rejected,” she answers. “Once I started performing, I got confidence and that helped me to reach the top 10. After that, I wanted to be in the top three. Now I am nervous because I want to win the title.”

Sourabhee’s parents and her sister were there to attend the final show.
