British actor Dev Patel, who has his roots in India, is certainly enjoying the success his debut movie Slumdog Millionaire has gotten worldwide. The buzz is that the teenager will be hitting Hollywood in some time with numerous offers keep coming his way from both sides of the Atlantic.
His journey to India, a year ago, to shoot for the movie… has just changed his life.
” I remember going to India when I was, like, 10 for a family wedding. … Going back [for filming] and being much older and more mature, I’ve just grown to love it. … It’s a place with so many people, it’s just like – humanity.”
Slumdog Millionaire is setting new records in various countries and is tipped for the Oscars. Dev himself is a favorite for various awards including the Academy ones.
“Oh, nooo! I’m not going to get an Oscar. I’m not even going to think about it. It’s too mind-boggling. It’s uncomprehendable,” he wails, mixing his words in an excited chatter.
Patel was spotted by director Danny Boyle’s daughter on the Skins show and he was later selected to play the important role of a Mumbai boy in the much-acclaimed movie. He now has two agents; one in Los Angeles and the other in London who are busy on phones for the teenage ‘lucky charm’.
