Alexandra Burke, a singer from North London, won the finals of the British reality show X-Factor yesterday to win a million-pound recording contract.
Judge Simon Cowell said: “I’m rarely speechless but I am now. Alex, God bless you. You deserved it.
“I know this show isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but for everyone who’s watched it, written about it and voted, thank you very much indeed.”
Boy-band JLS, who were the favorites for the top spot, came second and Eoghan Quigg was placed third. Burke was very close to WAG judge Cheryl Cole who was also her mentor for the show. So, what does she think about the win?
“She’s over the moon. We find it unreal, we cannot believe that it has happened. She texted me early this morning saying she’s still hyper. We really support each other and its great that I’ve found a really good friend as well.”
Meanwhile, Burke is all set for the U.K. Christmas No. 1 spot with her single, Hallelujah, which was originally written and recorded by Leonard Cohen. The single beat the earlier record of Day 1 sales by almost 25,000 copies. The record was previously held by Leona Lewis’ single A Moment Like This.
