Bollywood actor Zayed Khan recently swam with almost 40 sharks for a shooting sequence for the movie ‘Blue‘, being shot in the Caribbeans. While Zayed is trained in scuba diving, this was no small deal.
“Just the idea of swimming around with these unpredictable beasts (sharks) was difficult. We always had our trainers and divers around,” Zayed told IANS. “We were always surrounded with safety divers and all of them used to be at a distance of not more than 10 metres while the shot was being taken. There were 20 other divers around doing something or the other, so we were secured.
The actor also says that while sharks were very scary and he was pretty uncomfortable with the whole thought of swimming with them, the stuntmen made the task look pretty easy.
“The stuntmen made it look so easy. They have a way of dealing with fear. There were times when they first made me touch the sharks and slowly got me to do the fight sequences. But it was all done very carefully,” he said.
Blue is one of the most expensive Bollywood movies ever made, with a budget of Rs.129 crores. It is the first Hindi movie to be shot underwater in detail and has almost 25 minutes of screen-time for that. It stars Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Sanjay Dutt and Lara Dutta. It’ll be released on May 29th next year.
