Hollywood star Brad Pitt talked about his new movie ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ in an interview recently. He was accompanied by co-star Cate Blanchett.
Asked about the film’s focus on universal moments:
“It focuses on the universal moments. And they seem momunetal on the inside as far as first loves and loss, but it’s the thing that everyone experiences and carries with them.”
The movie is based on a 1922 short novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It’s the story of a man who ‘grows younger’.
It begins in 1860, just before the beginning of the American Civil War, with the birth of the protagonist, Benjamin Button. Benjamin Button is born with the physical appearance of a seventy-year-old man, and when his father first visits him mere hours after his birth he is already able to speak. As Benjamin “grows younger”, he begins to feel healthier and happier, as Fitzgerald says, “the blood flowed with new vigor through his veins”.
The movie got five Golden Globe nominations including best actor in a drama (Mr. Pitt), best dramatic picture, best director (David Fincher) and best screenplay (Eric Roth). It’s said to be one of the top contenders of the Oscars.
