The evening of Country Music Awards 2008 belonged to Kenny Chesney who was named the Entertainer Of The Year for the third time in a row and fourth overall.
“As much as tonight is about awards, I really believe that being able to stand up here is more about great songs,” a teary Chesney, 40, told the crowd. “This is my fourth time standing up here, and I’m really humbled by it.”
While he was nominated seven times in the show, he got away with just one… though the top one.
The hosts of the night, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood too were big winners. Paisley won Male Vocalist of the Year and Music Video of the Year. American Idol fame Carrie was named the Female Vocalist of the Year.
“Mom, it’s real hard to sing when you’re in the second row crying,” Underwood said from the podium.
Other winners include Country legend George Strait for the Best Album (Troubadour) and Sugarland for the Best Vocal Duo of the Year.
The 42nd edition of the function was held at the Sommet Center in Nashville. The eligibility criteria was from was from July 1, 2007, to June 30, 2008 and almost 5000 CMA members voted to decide the winners.
