Madhur Bhandarkar’s latest venture ‘Fashion‘ has found itself into a deep controversy recently. Apparently, some people have protested that the role played by Kangana Ranaut is based on the life of Geetanjali Nagpal, a top model from Delhi who couldn’t cope up with the pressures of the industry and was found begging in the suburbs.
While coincidently Kangana do resembles Gitanjali in her looks as well as her character in the much-awaited movie, director Madhur completely denies the allegations.
“It has nothing to do with Geetanjali Nagpal,” Bhandarakar emphasises. “It’s a movie about models in the fashion industry. Kangana’s character is an ultra-successful supermodel; I doubt if Geetanjali was a supermodel ever.”
But, the chairperson of the Delhi Commission of Women, Barkha Singh, doesn’t think so and is putting her wait behind the court to call for a stay on the release of the movie in the Capital on 29th of this month.
“Once we started probing, we found a website where Kangana Ranaut has said in an interview that her character in Fashion is based on Geetanjali Nagpal. If it seems that there are objectionable scenes, action will be taken.” Singh has faxed her objection to Bhandarkar’s office.
It might be re-called that Gitanjali was a top model some years ago and walked the ramp with the likes of Sushmita Sen. She created a huge debate in the country a year ago when she was rescued from the pavements of Delhi after found begging. Earlier, it was said that she fell for doping but later it was found out that she just couldn’t cope up with the pressure and went broke.
