Mariah Carey: No.1 ‘Carey’ On!

Singer Mariah Carey has passed Elvis Presley for the most No. 1 US singles and is now second only to the Beatles. Carey’s latest, “Touch My Body,” jumped to the top of Billboard’s Hot 100 this week. This is Mariah‘s 18th No.1 single on the charts.

But while the diva was in full celebration mode after learning of her latest milestone with her 18th chart-topper “Touch My Body“, she was also quick to put her accomplishment in perspective.

“I really can never put myself in the category of people who have not only revolutionised music but also changed the world,” she said.

“That’s a completely different era and time … I’m just feeling really happy and grateful.”

The song also is No. 1 on the trade magazine’s digital download chart.

Carey, 38, records for Island Records, a label owned by Vivendi SA ‘s Universal Music Group. “Touch My Body” is from her yet-to-be released album “E=MC2.”

Even Madonna broke Elvis’s record for the most top 10 singles with “4 Minutes,” which soared to third place from 68th. The song is her 37th to reach the top 10, compared with 36 for Elvis.

Touch My Bodywas one of two songs Mariah performed last month on NBC’s Saturday Night Live (show to be re-run on May 3rd). Last week, Mariah gave a special performance of “Touch My Body” and “We Belong Together” after the third season premiere of the MTV reality series, “The Hills.” The episode set a year-to-date record as the highest rated telecast on cable TV, with 5 million viewers tuning in.

Mariah is right now in London. She was seen at San Lorenzo in Chelsea last night celebrating the massive achievement.
