Miley Cyrus, Jack Black and Usher are among the big stars who headlined Saturday night’s Kids Choice awards, along with a whole lot of Nickelodeon‘s trademark slime. Cyrus took home trophies for favorite female singer and TV actress.
Her show, Hannah Montana, also nominated for Favorite TV show but lost to Drake and Josh. Miley thanked her family, friends and God. Later in the night little Miss Cyrus also performed live.
It was also a slime spectacle for the Nickelodeon children’s television network, which broadcast the 21st annual show live from UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion in front of 10,000 screaming fans, almost all of them teens and preteens.
Jack Black hosted this year’s event, which included singer Usher blasting a sumo wrestler with a slime cannon and model Heidi Klum throwing herself into a wall covered with slime-filled balloons.
As for the other winners, “Drake and Josh” won in the TV show category, while “American Idol” takes home the reality show honors. Eddie Murphy won for his voice work in “Shrek The Third” and The Jonas Brothers were named the favorite musical group.
Miley Cyrus arrived at Nickelodeon’s 2008 Kids’ Choice Awards in a sparkly black dress. Red peep toes and a matching clutch complete her sophisticated look.
The Naked Brothers Band also performed a song from their forthcoming album “I Don’t Want To Go To School.”
Cameron Diaz injected one serious moment into the 90 minute show when she accepted a silver blimp as this year’s Wannabe Award winner, for the person kids most want to be like. After a montage of clips from both her movies and her efforts on behalf of environmentalism was shown, she encouraged the crowd to do their part to protect the planet.
“You’re going to change the world. Every one of you kids is the future,” she told the audience. “Everybody go out and make the world a better place.”
Nickelodeon registered 88 million online votes for their annual Kid’s Choice Awards.
