Eric Toth, a teacher on FBI’s Most Wanted List is being sought by authorities. Former teacher Eric Toth made the list as one of the FBI’s most wanted for child charges. Read more and see photos and video here.
Eric Toth formerly worked as an teacher at a well-respected private school in the Washington, DC area. Authorities say last year, just before the end of the academic year, school officials caught him with illicit photos of an underage student on his camera. He was then escorted off of the elite private school’s property.
The camera reportedly contained a number of other pictures of minors that were of a sexual nature.
Following that incident on June 9th, 2008, he allegedly began to plan his disappearance, which subsequently put him on the FBI’s Most Wanted List.
According to America’s Most Wanted, authorities suspect that Toth went home after being caught with the photos, grabbed some personal belongings and went to his parent’s house in Indiana. The very next day he was tracked to Madison, WI, where it is believed he obtained a GPS device, along with other tools for navigation.
He then apparently attempted to fake his own suicide, by leaving his car in the garage at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport with an alleged suicide note inside. The note reportedly suggested he would kill himself in a lake not far from the airport. Authorities could not find a body anywhere in the area.
Now the FBI seems to have caught another lead as to Eric Toth’s whereabouts. Dateline NBC obtained photos of him at a homeless shelter in Phoenix, AZ. He has grown out a beard and reportedly used stolen identification in order to receive assistance at the shelter.
Since the former teacher was indicted in December 2008 for producing child material, he has yet to answer to the charges. Eric Toth remains at large.
Joseph Perschini, Jr., FBI Assistant Director in Charge of the Washington Field Office says:
“He’s somewhere in North America. We’ll keep it as open as that. We need a break or we need a mistake.”
