This week Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight series eclipses records previously set by Harry Potter on USA Today’s best-selling list. Read more and see photos and video here.
The Harry Potter series has sold more books overall, with an insane 143 million copies sold. And although the Twilight series has only sold 40 million thus far, it has lasted longer on the best-selling list than the Potter series did.
The numbers for the Twilight series are staggering. As of now, all four Twilight books are taking up top ten spots. They occupy the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th spot on the best-selling list. The books were in the top four spots for nearly 14 weeks. Having slipped just a bit, they have still remained in the top ten for an entire year in a row.
That fully eclipses the previous records set by the Harry Potter books. They occupied the top ten for a mere 13 consecutive weeks.
Sales aren’t likely to slow in the near future either. The movie version of New Moon is set to hit theatres in November, which should provide a nice sales bump. The same will most likely be true of the final two films in the series as well.
