Meet Naresh Iyer, an Indian playback singer who is the guy behind the songs ‘Roobaroo’ and ‘Paathshala’ from the super hit movie Rang De Basanti. See photos, video and a biography of Naresh Iyer here.
Naresh is one of the singers whose singing style has always been compared with that of AR Rahman. He recently sung Un Perai Sollum Pothe in the Ayngaran International’s Tamil movie Angadi Theru.
Iyer was accompanied by Shreya Ghoshal in the song.
“It is a rather folksy number complete with sedate beats, and flute segments. The violin interlude is neat but the lyrics are a bit trite. This is one of those tunes that, no matter how familiar or repeated, still manage to be melodious with their gentleness.”
As a biography, Naresh Iyer was born on 3 January 1981 in Mumbai. He is of Tamil origin and attended SIES College of Management Studies. After graduating in Commerce, Iyer learned carnatic and classical music.
Naresh appeared in Channel V’s Super Singer show and was spotted by AR Rahman. He was invited by the legendary singer to sing “Mayilirage” from the movie Anbe Aaruyire. Iyer has since worked in movies like Neevalle Neevalle, Thoovanam, Heart Beats, Delhi 6, Ananda Thandavam, Sivaji, Chennai Kadhal and Right Here, Right Now.
Iyer won the 2006 National Film Award for Best Male Playback singer for his work in Rang De Basanti.
He is also the vocalist of the Mumbai-based band Dhvani.
