Bollywood super star Shah Rukh Khan is looking to sell his IPL team the Kolkata Knight Riders, according to a report. He is currently in talks with leading business houses of India for a possible buy-out of the team which has not been doing well in this edition of the league and is placed last in the standings half-way through.
Sources of KKR’s holding company Red Chillies Entertainment, said: “Shah Rukh Khan has been trying to sell a stake in KKR for some time now. But since most companies he approached also wanted management control, Khan is now talking to Nokia, Sahara, Anil Ambani and others to sell his entire shareholding.”
Well, Anil Ambani will sure be interested in buying an IPL team. He missed out on an opportunity last year and his elder brother and business rival Mukesh Ambani bought the Mumbai franchise.
Shah Rukh has particularly been happy with his team for the most part since the last year, when the league started and has given full support to his team. The news of sudden sale certainly surprises me. But, in the end… you have a lot of money invested in the team and you obviously look for returns.
SRK is the owner of the team along with actress Juhi Chawla. The ownership of this team has hyped up their operations as Bollywood stars are immensely popular in India.
Meanwhile, corporate players who were allegedly approached by the actor for the sale, have denied the report.
Sahara India’s communications director Abhijit Sarkar
said: “We have not been approached by Shah Rukh Khan yet. But if he does, we would be happy to buy the team.”
D Shivakumar of Nokia India said, “Shah Rukh Khan will keep the team.”
