Bollywood movie director Prakash Jha was arrested recently on charges of distributing money to the voters for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Jha is a candidate for the Lok Janshakti Party from the West Champaran seat.

The police team, led by Superintendent of Police K S Anupam, found Rs 10.25 lakhs from the filmmaker’s house. Prakash says that the money was not intended for the voters but for the labourers working on his factory that he’s currently building.

“The money seized is like small change. It was kept at the guest house close to the Maurya sugar factory that I am building. The money was to be paid to the labourers and other employees of the factory,” he claimed.

A total of 29 people were arrested in the case and Prakash was later released on a bail. It will certainly dampen his image as a LJP candidate and given the history of the elections in the area, it cannot be ruled out that they were planning to bribe the voters. However, the case is remained to be solved.

Jha is now accusing Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi for trying to tarnish his image.

The West Champaran seat is sure to see a very competitive elections this year with opposition being Sadhu Yadav from Congress and Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal from the BJP. the constituency will go on poll on April 23rd, during the second phase of the elections.

Prakash Jha is one of the many political candidates with a good status in Bollywood. Sanjay Dutt, Vinod Khanna, Salman Khan and Govinda are some other film personalities providing their inputs for the national parties this year.
