Noted Bollywood director Mani Ratnam was hospitalized yesterday after he complained of chest pain. Ratnam was admitted in Apollo hospital and is said to be fine now.
“He had a few minutes of breathing difficulty and dizziness. There is no need for any panic as the director is healthy and likely to be discharged after routine check-up and a day’s rest. He may resume work shortly,” a source said.
Ratman is a heart patient and had suffered a heart attack in 2003, while filming ‘Yuva’. His sudden breathing problems are said to be because of hectic shooting schedules which are taking a toll on the health of the 52-year old director.
The director is currently shooting his next movie Raavan, starring the golden couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai. The shooting is in progress in Kerala and is said to be in the last stages.
Mani Ratnam is one of the best Bollywood directors. His movies are based on subjects which are different from the main league cinema. His best movies include Roja, Bombay, Dil Se and Guru. He has won five National and four Filmfare awards for his work. Ratnam is also a respected name in the southern movie industry.
He is the person who discovered music director AR Rahman, who won two Oscars recently for his work in Slumdog Millionaire.
